Motorists have the Lake Michigan Circle Tour, and maybe in the near future, there could be another trail around the Great Lake. Plans are underway to develop a kayak, biking/hiking and motor trail around the entire shoreline of Lake Michigan. This "multi-modal" recreational trail, similar to the Appalachian Trail, will highlight the natural beauty of the 1,640 mile long Lake Michigan shoreline.

Planning agencies in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin have been working independently to develop trails around Lake Michigan just for kayaks, canoes, bikes, and hikers. Hopes are to connect the efforts in each state and work together toward one common goal. It's yet another way to attract visitors to this area, just as the Lake Michigan Circle Tour has done.

With all the natural resources Michigan has to offer, this will be a great way for outdoor enthusiasts to safely navigate around the lake, without using the busy roadways.
